The Public Photos gallery contains photos for distribution to media outlets and clients. Guests may view and download images from this gallery. The Agent Photos gallery contains photos from Cooperative Extension Agents for information exchange. This is a private gallery and available to registered users only. The AgPhoto gallery is a collection of images from the photographers in Agricultural Communications. It contains images from our recent archives and is limited to registered users. The News Photo gallery contains news images from Ag Communications News Service. It is available to registered users. The front page also showcases recently uploaded images and albums.SearchingThere are multiple ways to find images in our library. You could start by clicking through the albums on the front page. Or you might click on the keywords of an image. This will automatically build an album of other images with that keyword. The easiest way to find images is to use our search box on the top of the left menu. The search engine will search all folders you have permission to view so make sure you are logged in before you start your inquiry. Our search engine will accept queries for multiple terms. For example, searching for horse farm will return images with both horse and farm in the description or keywords. You can also limit your searches with the negative sign. Searching horse -farm will return all horse photos that do not contain the word farm. In Advanced Searching, You may limit your searches to description, keywords, photographer or title by checking the appropriate boxes. Saving ImagesWhen you find an image that you would like to download, just select Download Photo from the left menu. Your browser will then confirm the download and you can select the destination for saving the image. Some galleries include the option of selecting multiple images for download using the Cart feature. You can click Add Image to Cart on images you would like to download. When you have found all your images, select View Cart from the left menu. Take a second to review or edit your image selections. Now click the cart actions bar on the top right of the screen. Select Download in a ZIP and hit the GO button. The items will now be copied to your computer in a zipped file.Writing Good CaptionsBefore you consider uploading any images, you should make sure they have excellent caption information. This is really important for finding the photo again in future searches. Detailed captions contain:1) Names of the people in the photo 2) What's going on in the photo 3) City, State and County of where the photo was taken Most imaging programs (Like Picasa 3.5 ) allow you to add this information directly to the images in the caption/description field. Advanced programs like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom give you access to more detailed fields. If you are using Photoshop or Lightroom, you can add location information to the city and state fields and it will automatically be added to the end of your caption on import. We also encourage you to add the County name to the Country field. After you finish adding captions to all your images you are ready for upload. Uploading ImagesRegistered users may upload images to selected folders on the site. Agents can add images to the Agent Photos gallery and writers can add images to the News Photos gallery. First, click on the appropriate gallery (Agents or News) from the home page. Now create an album by selecting Add Album on the left menu. You should give it a simple but unique name like 09joes_pics. It is important to fill out Title, Summary, Keywords and Description. However, if you are not sure about this information yet, you may edit it later. Hit Create and you have an album ready for images. Select Add Items for uploading options. We allow a number of methods for uploading photos to the site listed in tabs on the Add Items page. Uploading from a Web Browser (slow), uploading with Gallery Remote (Better), and uploading with Picassa (Best). From Web BrowserThis is the simplest way to upload photos but also the slowest. This is handy when you only need to add a few images. Click Browse and select your image files one at a time from your computer. Be sure to include very descriptive captions for each image. When all the images are selected, just hit the Add Items box at the bottom. Depending on the size of the images, it will take a minute for the site to process the items. (Images are down-sized to 4 mega pixels/2464px)Gallery RemoteIf you are adding multiple images, consider using Gallery Remote. It is a program that resides on your computer and simplifies uploading. Start by clicking Install Gallery Remote on my computer. You will be directed to a site where you can download the appropriate version for your computer. Easier and faster than the web method.Picasa ButtonThe preferred way to upload photos is to use Picasa 3.5 photo editing software from Google. This will allow you to add captions and tags/keywords to your images before you upload them. It's free and much faster than adding from a web browser. Once you have Picasa installed, download the button file and it will add a special option to the tool bar for uploading photos directly to AgPhoto.Lightroom UploaderIf you happen to use Adobe Lightroom to manage your photos, you may use this uploader plug-in to add to the AgPhoto Library. It allows you to export photos directly without the need for a web browser. I use Lightroom everyday so this is my favorite upload method. |
